TEXTILES
As textiles have been a passion of ours for a long time we seek out the old and unusual pieces when we are travelling.
In Turkey we have bought some fine, old and new production, Uzbek coats which can be worn (by either sex) or used as a piece of wall art, or both! We often buy really special embroidered pieces which have been used to decorate their yurts or their animals when they are celebrating a wedding or other special occasions.
From India, we buy beautifully embroidered dresses from the desert Sindh area and elaborately beaded skirts which have also been used for wedding guests.
AFEZ also stocks a huge range of bedcovers - embroidered, appliquéd and patchworked - in an amazing array of colours and materials - velvets, brocades and cotton. Each piece is different and many of them are hand made. This year we custom ordered some beautiful quilts which have proved to be very popular as we only have three left! We also provide a selection of cushions and curtains to compliment and complete the picture.
Another amazing find in India on our last visit were beautiful silk dupattas from Bangladesh. They are hand block printed and sewn together with delicate hand top stitching. There is nothing like the feel of old silk and these pieces, because they are reversible, are very versatile. There is enough material to even convert them into a jacket or dress if you are that way inclined!
