CARPETS & KILIMS:

At AFEZ we carry a selection of old and new production rugs and carpets, predominantly from Afghanistan. These feature traditional motifs, patterns and colours particular to the area where they have been woven. The old carpets have been lovingly washed and meticulously repaired (when needed) but still contain that natural patina derived from many years of use. Beautiful floor art passed down through many generations!

Our selection of kilims or flatweave rugs, originate in the tribal areas of Afghanistan, India and Morocco. Currently, we have in stock some small pieces from Afghanistan called Dostakans or eating cloths used on the ground for communal meals. These traditional tribal pieces were woven by Baluch tribes living in the border areas. In our modern houses, these pieces make for an interesting table runner or wall hanging.

AFEZ also has stock of new production Indian kilims made in Rajasthan, from jute and wool. These earthy toned textured pieces are hand woven using dyed or undyed wool combined with jute from the stem of the sisal plant, to make a very economical floor covering. There are many different sizes available.

At present, AFEZ has in stock a small selection of Central Asian hand felted wool pieces with intricate traditional designs. These are in a variety of sizes.
